Madhu Vrata

By Jahnavi Harrison

When oh when will it be me?
When will I desire to see
Those feet, the treasure of every heart
When oh when will I play a part?
I could be just a little leaf
And silently watch that butter thief
Or a speck of dust, on temple ground
At the feet of the Vaisnava true nectar is found
When will my heart sing with joy
At the sound of the name of that beautiful boy?
When will I search for any chance
To serve, and chant, and sing and dance
When will I put Lord Gopal first?
Will I ever feel that unbearable thirst?
Will I ever lose this foolish pride,
And take shelter of our eternal guide?
When oh when, will it be me
The Krsna searching madhu-bee?

‘This bhakti is the refuge of fortunate devotees who firmly vow (dhrta- vrata) never to seek any fruits except bhakti, like bees obsessed with the desire to taste only nectar (madhu-vrata).' - Madhurya Kadmabini by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura
